Basic Search

- Use Basic Search to get an idea about how much information is available on your topic

Basic Search

1. Click “Basic Search” from top menu
2. Enter your search terms in the dialog box
3. Select “Field to search” from the pull-down menu
4. Click “Submit”

Browse

(available only from the Basic Search screen)

- Use Browse when you know the exact title, author name, subject heading, Dewey call number, Chinese call number, or ISBN/ISSN
- The result is in an alphabetical list of titles, or author names, etc.

1. Click “Browse” from top menu
2. Enter terms or phrase from your title (or author, etc. ) in the dialogue box
3. Select “Title” (or “Author”, etc. ) from the drop-down menu
4. Click on “Submit”

Advanced Search

- Use Advanced Search to include more search terms and more search fields in one go

Advanced Search

1. Click “Advanced Search” from top menu
2. Enter your search terms in dialog boxes (up to 5)
3. Select desired field for each of your search terms entered
4. Click “Submit”
5. Click on “Number of Records” to view the results

More Searching: Refine Search

- Result List provides the “Refine Search” feature which allows you to search within your results

Refine Search

1. Click on “Result List” after a search, basic or advanced
2. Click on “Refine Search”
3. Click on one of the 3 options, “And”, “Or”, “Not”
4. Enter your search terms in the dialog box
5. Select “Field to search” from the pull-down menu
6. Click “Submit”

Result List- Result List is obtained after searching from “Basic Search” / “Advanced Search”
- Or by clicking an entry in the “Browse List” after searching from “Browse”
- Or by marking a box from the “Previous Searches” and then clicking on “View” from the command menu

More searching: Limit Search

Consider using Limit Search during searching in Basic Search, Advanced Search or Refine Search, to narrow down search results further by format, language, collection, and/or year of publication

More searching: Combine Search

- “Previous Searches” will allow you to combine 2 search queries which enables further searching

Combine Search1. Click on “Previous Searches” from the top menu
2. Mark 2 (or more) boxes to select 2 (or more) search queries
3. Click on “Combine” from the Previous Searches menu
4. Click on one of the 4 options, “And”, “Or”, “First set not second”, “Second set not first” (the last 2 options combine 2 selected search queries only)
5. Click on “Submit”
6. The message, “Combine search is successful” will appear
7. To view the search results, mark the first box and then click on “View” from the Previous Searches menu

Previous Searches

- Previous Searches are obtained by clicking on “Previous Searches” from the top menu
- Available only after you have conducted searches before, Basic Search or Advanced Search
- “Previous Searches” page will be empty if no searches have been conducted previously

- Mark boxes to select Search Queries to be saved from the “Previous Search” page
- Click on “Save to Saved Searches”
- Log onto your Library Record and the message, “Search was successfully saved in Saved Searches” appears

Saved Searches

Saved Searches- To view saved searches, log onto your Library Record and click on “Saved Searches”
- Mark desired box to select Search Query and click “Run Query” to get the search results
- “Saved Searches” will be empty if no Search Queries have been saved previously

Result List

- “Sort options: Author, Title, Year” are available at top left corner under your search query
- Click on the desired option to sort the results derived from your most recent search

Full View of Record

- Click on desired item from the Result List or My e-Shelf
- Click on desired format option to view: Standard, Citation or MARC from “Choose format” (top left corner under “Full View of Record”)Full View of Record

View Holdings

- Click on “Where is it?” from the “Full View of Record” page
- Or Click on “Library (Item/Out)” from the “Result List” page or “My e-Shelf” page
- To hold/request an item that is on loan to someone else, click on the “Request” link, which appear only if the item is check outView Holdings

Add to My e-Shelf

- Library users must log onto “My Library Record” before adding any search results to “My e-Shelf”
- Click on boxes adjacent to the items from the “Result List” page and click “Add to my e-shelf” from the command menu
- Or simply click “Add to my e-Shelf” on the “Full View of Record” page
- Enter notes for your selected items or record and click “Submit” on the “My e-Shelf” pageAdd My e-shelf

Email/Save

- From your “Result List” page or from “My e-Shelf” page, mark the boxes to select items and Click on “Email/Save” from the command menu
- Select “standard” or “citation” from “Record Format”
- Accept default encoding, “UTF-8”, or else desired encoding format
- To email, fill in subject, your name, message, e-mail address and click “Submit”
- To save, leave the email form blank and simply click “Submit” will direct you to the “Save” page
- Click “Save Selected” will direct you to a text-file Window
- Click on “File” and “Save as” to save records to your PCEmail/Save
