Library Service Updates (February 2023)

Carpet Replacement Work

To spruce up the study environment, carpet replacement works started at the CBCC Library in January 2023 New Carpet and are being carried out in phases. The scheduled completion date is mid-February 2023. In terms of colour and pattern, the new carpet matches with the existing one in the Learning Commons, creating cohesion across the two premises. We hope you will enjoy the fresh look of the CBCC Library and visit us more often!

Installation of Artificial Turf

Podium

The whole area of the podium is now covered with artificial turf, which will provide you with an enlarged green outdoor space to rest and relax after long and tiring lectures. During short breaks, you can always come and recharge yourself here – stretching your body and taking a deep breath of clean air – before returning to work.

Installation of Air Purifiers and Sterilizers

Air Purifier and SterilizersAs part of our ongoing effort to provide a safe environment for our library users, not only are the fixtures and furnishings cleaned regularly, the air quality is also maintained at a high standard. Recently, five air purifiers, which are powered by an advanced technology, have been installed in the Learning Commons to constantly remove airborne viruses and bacteria through a sophisticated sterilization process. We hope that these appliances can help create an even cleaner and fresher indoor space for you to read, study and relax.

Resumption of Room Booking Services

As the COVID-19 pandemic situation is stabilizing, the Library has resumed room booking services from the 2nd semester so as to cater for users who have group study and collaborative learning needs. The group discussion rooms can now be reserved via the Room Booking System. For details about the use of the rooms, please refer to Group Discussion Rooms.

Mother of Good Counsel

As a token of appreciation for the generosity of the donors who had kindly given the paintings of the Feature Wall “Blessed Virgin Mary” to the Institute, an elaborate feature wall named “Mother of Good Counsel” was built to complement the statue erected next to the entrance of the Learning Commons. The paintings are elegantly framed and displayed against the backdrop of a green prairie under a bright blue sky, conveying the warmth and beauty of the blessings of God and Virgin Mary.

Information Search Competitions

We have a piece of good news to share with you! EBSCO Winner Two of our students were winners at the online search competitions organized by EBSCOhost and Emerald – two global information providers for educational institutions in Hong Kong and Macau – in October and November 2022 respectively.

Emerald WinnerIn order to promote an effective use of the e-resources at the Library for research and study purposes, members of the CIHE/CBCC community were encouraged to take part in the aforementioned competitions. Participants were either asked to answer specific questions based on the information found in journal articles or search the databases for articles on a specific topic. Those who duly completed the exercise were automatically entered into the lucky draw to win fabulous prizes.

The Library has already presented the prizes – a neckband speaker and a tablet stand – on behalf of EBSCOhost and Emerald.
